Nonghet is a remote area surrounded by mountains in the northeast of Laos, close to the border with Vietnam.
About 65% of the population in Nonghet are Hmong people, who are one of the most disadvantaged ethnic groups in Laos.
Laos is the most heavily bombed country, per capita, in history. Unexploded ordnance around Nonghet has left the community in fear and it is difficult to farm and build in new areas.
Youth in Nonghet made a short video to introduce their village to you. This is one of many videos you can expect to receive from your community, as they love to share their lives with sponsors.
We’ve been installing toilets and water tanks around Nonghet, so that families can have access to clean water and sanitation.
We have provided education to new mothers on nutrition, to prevent and treat the causes of malnutrition in babies.
We’re helping to clear land from unexploded ordnance. Since 2010 ChildFund has helped clear 50,000 square metres of land from mines dropped during the Vietnam war.
