Kenya

ChildFund has been working in Kenya since 1960 across many hard-to-reach communities, providing programs and essential resources to help children survive and thrive.

Despite Kenya being considered the economic and transportation hub of East Africa, poverty is still widespread across the country’s regional areas. Many of Kenya’s poorest people live in isolated communities, which are prone to climate change-driven droughts. Children, who make up more than half of the population, face serious risks that stem from a lack of food, clean water, and education.

Our priorities are:

Child marriage and female genital mutilation are major concerns for girls in Kenya, particularly in remote areas.

Ongoing droughts put many children at risk of starvation. Children who suffer ongoing malnutrition are less likely to excel at school or find fulfilling work as adults.

It is common for children to contract diseases such as malaria, which can be deadly if untreated. Healthcare facilities are rare in remote areas, meaning children face long journeys when they need medical attention.
