ChildFund began working in India in 1951, implementing child-focused development programs in both urban and rural communities.
Over the past two decades, India has witnessed accelerated economic growth, emerging as one of the world’s largest economies. Despite this, more than 200 million people still live below the poverty line – and children continue to be exposed to child labour, early marriage, and violence.
Our priorities are:
Many Indian women living in rural areas do not give birth in hospitals due to a lack of facilities and trained healthcare workers.
While literacy rates and primary school enrolments are on the rise, many schools still use outdated teaching methods that do not promote child well being.
Many children from poor families are forced to work, sometimes in dangerous jobs in industries such as mining.
